Winning Design Entry for Chicco x Desall's It's Teething Time | 2019 | Industrial Design

Brief
Design a new collection of teethers for Chicco consisting of 5 Lines that are able to offer the right solution for every stage of the baby’s teething period. The lines shall have the same mood board, characterised by a unique and distinctive style.
Teething consists of various phases and new-borns need objects that grow with them in order to respect the natural growth of their teeth and their psychomotor skills.
Process
Before sketching and ideating, I analysed the current products of Chicco and other competitors.
Mood board
“Protect the Amazon” is the chosen theme that inspired the collection. As the new-born is learning about their world through sensory experiences, why not simultaneously learn and be familiar with the animals that live in the world as well.
Ideation
Form development with thumbnail sketching and digital sketching.
Initial designs for each line for the design competition.

Design Developments with Chicco
Collaboration with the brand took place where we made some design adjustments to align with their manufacturing process, and did further exploration on the animal options, size and shape for better ergonomics.
Soothing Line - Target: 0m +
Designed to massage the newborn’s gums with bristles or other soft protrusions. After two months, the baby may grasp it directly with their hands
Line to Chew - Target: 2m +
Designed to reach all the areas of the mouth, made of a soft material, easy to handle for the baby, and offers various textures to provide different stimuli.
Cooling Line - Target: 4m+
Designed to effectively soothe the teething sores with cooling technologies. Teethers filled with water is a top-selling typology and may always be ready for use after being stored in the refrigerator. Stainless steel insert teethers - in addition to being hygienic - also provide a longer-lasting cooling power.
Sensory Line - Target: 6m+
Designed to stimulate most of the baby’s senses with sounds, colors, and different consistencies in order to draw the attention of the baby and contribute to her psychophysical growth while soothing the teething with a cooling material.
